LucaNet software in Spain - Interview with Pedro Mardomingo

The LucaNet family was able to win him for its ranks in 2018. In an interview shortly shortly before Christmas 2018 we asked him about his motivation for switching to LucaNet, his objectives for our company in our Spanish-speaking market, and his wishes and plans for the Christmas season.
Interview with Pedro Mardomingo about his plans for LucaNet and our software
Pedro, why did you join the LucaNet family?
Pedro: When I saw the vacancy, I felt it was important for me to come back to my roots because I started as a financial controller. And I ran a software company that focused on financial services. When I first saw the LucaNet solutions, I knew right away that the product would be successful. And I wanted to be part of its success.
What is your experience and what are your goals for LucaNet?
Pedro: I worked for 14 years with Exact Software. First I was financial controller and then managing director for Spain and Portugal. I ran different business units including DRP, CRM and HRM, and CPM when Exact took over Longview. This is a Canadian CPM software company.

What do you think are the most important USPs for LucaNet software customers and for the Spanish market?
Pedro: Oh, the list of the USPs of LucaNet is long. And will not differ so much from what makes LucaNet so successful in the home market:
- It’s quick to implement.
- It’s easy to use.
- It’s very user-friendly.
I don‘t recognize these characteristics in any other solution.
Did you already have any funny or uncanny experiences with any of your users?
Pedro: Dealing with Spaniards is not always an easy task since they are rather unpredictable: They say yes, and then they postpone. We are not very strong on planning (laughing).
What plans does our new Managing Director have for Christmas?
How do you celebrate Christmas in Spain?
Pedro: Spain is a Catholic country and most people celebrate Christmas with their family. This applies to me as well. I will spend time with my parents, children and my wife. I will also be with friends. In Spain we spend a lot of time socializing outside in our communities.
What do you want for Christmas?
Pedro: Personally, I don’t need gifts. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. I always go skiing at Christmas time with my family. It’s one of my favorite sports. That’s the best gift for me.
About Pedro Mardomingo – Managing Director for LucaNet Spain
Pedro Mardomingo has been Managing Director at LucaNet in Spain since 2018. He studied Business Administration at the IE Business School in Madrid. After graduating with a Master of Business Administration, the stations along his career path included Exact Software. His time there included the role of Country Manager. In 2009, he became a freelance consultant for various companies. He then founded the company THE ROOM Research & Solutions. In 2016, he joined Teamleader CRM and built up their Spanish business from zero. In 2018, he became External Consultant at ForceManager. That same year, he became a part of the LucaNet family. Did you know? Christmas Tradition in Spain
Every Spaniard knows the Lotería de Navidad. This special Christmas drawing of the state lottery has been carried out since 1812. And it pays out - get ready for it! - some 2.4 billion euros. In light of its main prize, this lottery is also called “El Gordo,” the Fat One - and is popular well beyond Spain’s borders.
In 2017, the winners also included four Germans. They were among twenty winners and received 200,000 euros each. The system behind El Gordo is no trivial matter. And the lottery ticket is anything but cheap. Tickets can be purchased starting in mid-July at the lottery collection points. Since 2011, there are exactly 100,000 numbers available - from 00000 to 99999. Due to the huge demand, there are 170 series for every lottery ticket, which means the same lottery number is appears 170 times. One classic A4-sized ticket consists of ten tickets (décimos). They can be removed via perforation. That means there are 1,700 tenth lottery tickets with the same five-digit lottery number. A complete lottery ticket costs 200 euros. However, it is indeed customary to share a lottery ticket with friends, family members, or work colleages.
The drawing is always held on the 22nd of December at the “Teatro Real” opera house in Madrid. The spectacle starts in the morning and lasts several hours, broadcast live on television. An event that brings young and old alike together in front of the TV. A similar level of viewership can probably only be attained when the Spanish national team plays in the World Cup finale.
A huge, gold-colored lottery vessel contains the 100,000 wooden balls. Each ball weighs exactly three grams and has a lottery number engraved on it by laser. A second, somewhat smaller vessel contains the winnings. They comprise another 15,000 wooden balls, including El Gordo. Then the drawing is performed individually, prize by prize. Two balls are simultaneously extracted from the two spheres, each landing in its own glass bowl. Pupils from Madrid’s Colegio Saan Ildefonso draw the balls. They sing both the lottery number and the corresponding prize.
With a probability of winning of 1:100,000, the perspectives of being one of the fortunate winners in the Lotería de Navidad are pretty good. However, there is only one party certain to be a winner, and the biggest one at that: the government. 30 percent of ticket sales and 20 percent of every prize over 2,500 euros is subject to taxes.
