Total cost accounting

Similarly to cost-of-sales accounting, total cost accounting is a short-term earnings statement. The total costs for a period are divided according to cost type and placed opposite revenues from the same period. The total costs may be divided into itemised costs or general costs and then further divided according to cost type. According to the German Commercial Code and the IFRS, a company may use cost of sales accounting or total cost accounting.
