eXtensible Business Reporting Language

eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) is a freely available electronic language, based on XML and used for "Financial Reporting", or exchange of information from and about companies, especially annual financial statements. XBRL offers a standard for creation, distribution/publication, evaluation and comparison of such information.
Standard XBRL enables companies to only have to prepare their data in this form once, while beeing able to use them multiple times: for publication (for example, on the Internet) and for information for business partners, banks, regulatory organs or announcements in the Federal Gazette.
