ERP system
ERP is an abbreviation for Enterprise Resource Planning and signifies the managerial task of utilising resources available to a company in the most efficient way for operations.
An ERP system is a complex application for supporting operative resource planning of the entire company and is usually composed of several components.
Typical functional areas of an ERP system are
- finance and accounting,
- material and inventory control,
- production,
- HR management,
- research and development as well as
- marketing and distribution.
In the context of Business Intelligence applications, ERP systems are the earlier systems, from which data are transferred into a central data warehouse for analysis and reporting during an ETL process.
