Where does the company's name come from?
The company's name is a reference to the Italian monk Luca Pacioli (1445 to 1514 or 1517). A well-known mathematician and a Franciscan monk, he wrote the first complete treatise on the topic of accounting called "Summa de Arithmetica Geometrica Proportioni et Proportionalita“ (or "Summa") in 1494. The book is considered the Renaissance's preeminent mathematical work and describes accounting methods practiced by Venetian merchants. This type of double bookkeeping with inventory and balance sheet, as well as profit-and-loss, is used to this day around the world.
